THE PORTFOLIO REVIEW IS NOW CLOSED

Following its mission of establishing and maintaining a continuing effort to help photographers further their careers, The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards has decided to introduce The Pollux Portfolio Reviews. The main objective of this portfolio review program is to help you improve the quality of your work and to take you to the next level.

The reviewers will work with the reviewees in the ongoing process involved in improving their work to make it the best it can be. The reviewers will help even to experienced photographers to improve their existing portfolios, challenging to work towards producing higher-quality photographs. Reviewers will give participating photographers an initial feedback and then will exchange by email information covering the artistic value of each image and the process of image editing and image sequencing, as well as technical and practical problems that arise with advanced artistic and documentary photography.

The Portfolio Review Program will be open for submissions sent on or before October 30th.

How to participate in The Pollux Portfolio Review:

To participate in The Pollux Portfolio Review you have to fill out the Registration Form. Click here to download the Registration Form in pdf format

Email the Registration Form to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it along with a statement of the work/s you're submitting for review, your bio, and the images that comprise your portfolio's.

The statement of your work should contain your goals and expectations in photography. It should offer an insight on the body of work you do, describing your artistic creative process, you philosophy, vision, and passion. The reviewer will want to now as much as possible about you, the artist, and your statement will help the reviewer to better help you. Do not include in the statement data about your bio, awards and training. This goes in a separate document: you bio. Write both the statement and the bio in a clear and concise manner, ideally of no more than 100-250 words.

You can participate in The Pollux Portfolio Review with a maximum of 3 portfolios, each consisting in 12 to 20 images.

A portfolio for review can be a coherent body of work comprised of images telling a story, a common thematic, or eventually individual single images representing your style, technique or artistic vision.

Once received your work/s will go to the reviewer of your choice who will give you give you a feedback within 2 weeks. After receiving the feedback you will have the chance to exchange up to 5 emails (in one month) with the reviewer asking questions and receiving specific answers about your work and the feedback given to you, in an open and personal discussion.

Preparation of images

Please configure the images following these specifications:

File extension: jpg; Size in the largest side: 1280 pixels; Resolution: 72 dpi; Compression: 7; Profile: RGB

FILE NAME:  Image sequence_Your last name_Portfolio number_Image title.jpg (in "portfolio number" write Portfolio 1, 3 or 3; in "Image sequence", a sequential number (01 through 20) representing how you want the reviewer to see your portfolio (i.e. 01_Portfolio 02_Sunset in New York.jpg)

Registration Fees:

Before July 25th, 2010: 1 portfolio $ 300; 2 porfolios $ 540; 3 portfolios $ 765

After July 25th, 2010: 1 portfolio $ 360; 2 portfolios $ 650; 3 portfolios $ 920

Payment:

Upon receiving your submission for review, a Paypal invoice will be send to you. Your work/s will be sent to the reviewer once the invoice has been paid.

Reviewers: (you'll be able to choose the reviewer when filling out the Registration Form)

Tim Anderson. Former publisher/managing editor of CameraArts magazine. Now produces Red Dog News, a bi-weekly photography-related e-newsletter that goes out to more than 16,000 subscribers. For his photography, he specializes in fine art nudes, and recently curated and participated in the show, 1x15," at Matrix Art Gallery, in Albuquerque. Anderson is a co-founder of Rio Grande Workshops, and manages several photography Websites and blogs, as well as his personal site www.timothybanderson.com. He has juried all around the country for Review Santa Fe, Review LA, Photo Lucida, The Center for Fine Art Photography, The Gala Awards, The Palm Springs Photo Festival, etc. He has photographed workshops by Elizabeth Opalenik (Imagination & Dreams, Santa Fe Workshops), and was asked by Lucien Clergue to photograph his workshop in Bessege, France, in 2009.

John Delaney. Graduated at the School of Photographic Art Science of the Rochester Institute of Technology, John was Assistant and Master Printer of Richard Avedon for 15 years. He worked in Fine Art Master Printing Projects with Irving Penn, Bruce Davidson, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein and Annie Leibovitz. Was awarded as Discovery of the Year at the Lucie Awards in 2008, Photographer of the Year in Photojournalism, Px3 (2009); 3rd Place Photographer of the Year, WPGA (2009), Spider Awards, Winner in Photojournalism and Portrait (2010). He has done solo exhibitions in New York, China, Santa Fe (New Mexico), Los Angeles, and Sardinia (Italy). www.johndelaney.net

Larry Louie. A Canadian doctor in optometry and awarded photographer, Larry splits his time between his optometry practise and his passion for travel and photography. He won the first place in Photojournalism in Px3 and the Discovery of the Year Award at The Lucie Awards (2007); the People Choice Award of Px3 (2008); Sony World Photography Awards' Photographer of the Month (2009), and Recipient of the Humanitarian Documentary Grant of The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards (2009). Larry is a member of the Artistic Advisory Board of The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards. www.larrylouie.com 

Julio Hardy.  Founder and Managing Director of The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards, Julio was awarded as Photographer of The Year at the Black & White Spider Awards in 2007. His works have been published in Black & White Magazine (Portfolio and Single Image), Photo, CameraArts, and the book The World's Greatest Black and White Photography. He has exhibited his works in Rome's Photography Festival, Malaga and Ourense (Spain), Denver International Airport, and Rueff Gallery (Indiana). www.juliohardy.com
